Sankagiri The India Cements (Brand : Sankar Sakthi) and the other Dalmia
Cements at Karuppur These two factories cater for the domestic as well
as Export of Cements.

Real Estate
Salem now become hot spot for real estate business. As Salem is in the
IT road map with The El-cot TIDEL Park Project and the upcoming
Multispecialty Hospital in Salem. There are other Niche players also in
the ground building apartments like the ARRS.

The Leigh Bazaar market is one of the largest regional markets for agro
products.
Salem had an active film production with former Modern Theatres Studios
being the hub of Tamil film production
Now defunct, Modern Theatres produced some of the most successful Tamil

Minister M.G. Ramachandran. However, there are presently no studios in
Salem. Salem was famous for hosting a huge number of cinema theatres in

Special Economic Zones (SEZ)
Being one of the fastest growing tier II cities, the Tamil Nadu
government and ELCOT are planning an IT park in Salem covering about 160
acres. It comes under SEZ.
SAIL is planning a Steel SEZ inside the Salem Steel plant covering
about 250 acres.
There is an exclusive Electrical and Electronics Industrial Estate in
the Suramangalam area of Salem city

Production of un-bleached sugar-vellam or Nattu Sarkarai is a major
cottage industry among the sugarcane cultivators of Salem.
Rope making is another major cottage industry. Ropes are made by people
out of the fibres of coconut, Aloe vera, Cotton, Jute. Salem has a
sizeable weaver population and weaving is an important house hold
industry here. Both silk and cotton fabrics woven in Salem find popular
market throughout the State.
